Welcome Back and Update

Our new registration system is up and running and we welcome everyone back for another great season. Sunday training for minis and youth will start on 26th August 2018. There may also be some pre-season sessions for some age groups, so look out for messages from your team manager. We are keen to recruit new players, so please encourage current players to invite friends along for the new season.

A quick update of changes that have taken place

  • We have the exciting introduction of a new seniors section to the club formed by the ex-HKCC players. We’ll now have a strong seniors section that includes a Premiership, Prem A and two social squads on the men’s side, and a second division Ladies team that are knocking at the door of the ladies premiership. We also have 5 HKU Sandy Bay players representing Hong Kong in the charge towards the 2019 Rugby World Cup, as well as the team manager. The HKU Sandy Bay seniors section is led by James Wood and Richard Cooke. If any parents fancy a run, please register as a senior player as well as a parent!
  • To support the growing ambitions of the club, we have appointed a full-time General Manager Grant Beuzeval to run the day to day operations of the club. Grant has been involved in Hong Kong rugby in various capacities for the last 20+ years. He has been heavily involved in the integration and merger of other clubs as well as start-up tech businesses. He also has two young daughters with aspirations to make that Sandy Bay Ladies premiership team…..watch this space!
  • After over 12 years in a leadership role of both Sandy Bay and the Hong Kong Mini Rugby Union Jim Leung has decided to take a more leisurely position in the club and is stepping down as President. Jim joined the club with his son Alex in 2006 and has made a massive contribution to our success so far. Jim will not be going anywhere and has promised to continue to help in the background with various projects and events.
  • With Jim stepping down from the Presidents role I have agreed to take on the role in a newly constituted club board as Club Chairman
  • I am very pleased to announce Peter Glanville will be stepping up as Mini Chair. Pete has been with the club for the past 4 years and has another good 16 years ahead of him in youth and mini rugby! Over the past few years, Pete has made a significant contribution to our mini rugby programme and is very well placed to take on this very rewarding role.

As we plan more improvements to the club we’ll keep you posted through our news channel in Pitchero

I hope you all enjoy a great summer break and look forward to seeing everyone back in August for more rugby

Iain Carmichael
Club Chairman
