Ready for rugby

Welcome to the 2018/19 rugby season!

As we enter a new season, there are a few important messages that I wanted to communicate as the new Chairman of the minis section of HKU Sandy Bay.

Firstly, and most importantly, I want to ensure all players, parents, team managers and coaches are aligned in our overriding aim, which is to have fun and ensure everyone has an enjoyable rugby experience. As you know, our club relies on volunteer assistance throughout the season (frankly Sandy Bay and the wider mini rugby group in HK wouldn’t work without volunteers) and I want to encourage all club members to be supportive of our players, coaches and volunteers but also be equally supportive of other teams, opposing coaches and referees. Remember that all volunteers are attempting to do their best and people are there to have a good time.

Secondly, as the Club continues to grow and our player numbers increase, we want to ensure that everybody has a sense of belonging to the Club. We have some amazing resources such as modern synthetic pitches with recurring training times booked throughout the season, access to / involvement of pro-coaches, a large number of festivals, tours, end of season party and a new club wide technology communication platform. All of these elements of running the Club (besides the day to day coaching and managing each team) requires volunteers. Therefore we ask that you volunteer early and often in support of our Club initiatives. We really do want to ensure that kids and parents alike really enjoy being part of the Club.

Finally, For those that I am yet to meet, I look forward to running into you on Sunday morning down at Stanley Ho starting from 26 August. I currently have two boys that play (Cooper in the U10s and Finn in the U8s), so I will be down there early and with a two-year-old (Poppy), it seems that I have many years ahead of me of early morning starts on a Sunday.

Cheers
