Sandy Bay takes on USRC Tigers in Pre-Xmas Clash
Tomorrow marks the last game of 2018 for Sandy Bay and will see us just over halfway through the regular season. Currently lying 5th on the ladder, 10 points adrift of Valley for a top four, semi-final spot, there is a touch of the "now or never" about taking on USRC Tigers at King's Park. USRC Tigers currently sit in third place on equal points with HKFC, both trailing league leaders Hong Kong Scottish by 6 points. Last weekend saw Tigers run out as comfortable winners over Kowloon, whilst we were left ruing another one "that got away", trailing by just 2 points at the half, a bad start to the second period saw Club pull away for a comfortable win and leave us with nothing to show for our efforts and promise.
This week Alex Post again leads the side after a good showing last week, where he dominated his opposite number. Back into the side comes Lawrence Babe after some time on the sidelines. With no changes in the backrow and halfbacks, Coach Brett Wilkinson hands another opportunity to Vueti, Lamming, Van der Smit, Slatem and Cumming to set the records straight. Behind the scrum, McQueen comes into the starting 15 and points scoring machine Jack Metters continues to impress whether at scrum-half, fly-half or wing, he has scored over two-thirds of all Sandy Bay's points this term, nothing short of remarkable consistency.
Tomorrow provides an opportunity to turnaround the gut wrenching 22-17 loss to Tigers at So Kon Po in the first round, when again Sandy Bay had opportunities a plenty to record the W. With Wilkinson away with the Hong Kong U20 team in Taiwan, can the Prems deliver an early Christmas present and set up the start of the Festive Season with a bit of cheer!
