HKU Sandy Bay U12B 2 blasted through the competition in the Richard Hawke's Tourney winning 3 out of 3.

A ruckus bus ride to the Flying Kukris home field in Taipo brought the rugby player out of these fine boys as they dominated all three games - dominated enough that they have been moved up to Group B for the next round.

The highlight was the HK-style downpour that muddied the pitch, greased the ball, pushed out the heat, and painted a muddy smile on all the players.

Determination and communication were the driving factors as Sandy Bay won the majority of the ruck overs, passed the ball down the line that let, as one spectator noted, "our large and very strong" runners drive forward to the try line.

Call out to Fred for managing that front line and making many try saving tackles. And the formidable threesome of Nico, Aryx, and Ted that were literally running upfield like freight trains late for the next delivery.

Game 1: Vs Valley Fort 5-2
Great field vision from Toby as Sandy Bay spread the defense wide by getting the ball to Skye on the far right before Harry and Fred were able to push it through on the other side, leaving a leisurely walk in for Nico, and then Ted, and then Aryx, and then Nico once again.

Game 2: Vs Flying Kukris 6-3
The downpour made this game a slip-n-slide with a bar of soap. First half highlight was a full-field steamroll by Aryx that resulted in a try. Second half both sides doing what they could to hang on to the ball, hang on to the opponent, just hang on. Nico found his groove during those 6 minutes as he scored 3 tries on 3 carries.

Game 3: Vs Football Club 6-1
Tough competitive talk from the mouths of both sides, but Sandy Bay really dominated the physical matchups winning ruck over after ruck over. This put Football Club back on their heels, which allowed break away runs from Mike, Harry, Toby, and then Leo while Skye pulled off his patented 360 spinner to get over the try line.

These boys definitely upped their game and showed what they can do when they work together. Look forward to watching them play in the next round.
