After a two week break, the U12 Boys A Team were raring to go on a hot Sunday morning at Kings Park. The line up this week was slightly different, with USRC Tigers moved to the Group B matches, and Discovery Bay Pirates moved up to Group A as a result of their results in Round 1.

Match 1 HKU Sandy Bay 1 v Valley Fort 1: Result 5-0
In contrast to the first week, the Sandy Bay boys left any initial nerves well behind them as the game kicked off. A few good rucks to warm the lads up and before long, Coops had one of his signature sprints to fly over for the first try. This was followed not long after with Luca storming powerfully over for the second try. The boys were superb under the high ball and demonstrated their confidence in the scrum winning the first one against the head.

After half time Sandy Bay kept the pressure on - and despite Valley winning their first line out, they knocked the ball on and a quick response by Sandy Bay released Chiaki to sprint over for a try. This was quickly followed by Xavier charging in for a try. In the final minute of the match, Xavier was lightning quick in support to take the ball over the line.

Match 2 HKU Sandy Bay 1 v DB Pirates: Result 6-2
The final score doesn't quite reflect the game. The DB Pirates gave Sandy Bay an excellent match in the first half. Despite Sandy Bay going ahead in the opening minutes, DB fought back valiantly breaking through the Sandy Bay defence scoring two tries in quick succession. Coops had a great run to even things up. 2-2 at half time - game on!

However, what can only politely be described as "stern words" from Coach Brendon at half time, the Sandy Bay boys took the bull by the horns with some superb team play across the board and despite knocks and the increasing temperatures on the pitch went on to score another 4 tries through Ryuto, Luca (2) and Xavier before the final whistle. That was more like it ! The boys were back!

Match 3 HKU Sandy Bay 1 v HK Football Club 1
With just 5 minutes between matches, the boys had little time to reflect on an excellent second half against DB Pirates - before having to turn their focus to the Football Club. However, the reality was our boys still had plenty to give and with teamwork second to none, never really let the Football Club into the game. It was a slow and steady start to the game - with excellent tries by Xavier and Luca. The football club responded with a try making it 2-1 at half time.

All to play for after the break - but the Sandy Bay team appeared well refreshed and in the second half played with heart - running away with three more tries from Kadyn, Xavier and Coops. Excellent sevens rugby.
