A tough day as HKU2 U12 boys take on new teams - match report by John Pauline

What a tough day on the pitch for the boys! Very hot relentless conditions. To make things harder, the other teams were generally very big lads and it was a very physical outing. Ultimately one draw and two losses.

GAME 1 - VS TIGERS 0-6

Very tough first game against a fired up big team. The Tigers were strong at pushing over the rucks and securing the ball. They also had some tackle busting breakaway tries.

Nico and Ted had some big barnstorming runs. Tackling was solid, given the size of the other players & Mikey led the way with some great impact tackles.

Josh had a spectacular try saving tackle that he chased down.

Backing up your team mates can be improved, as some players were isolated, which made it easier for some turnovers.

GAME 2 - FC 2. 3-3

A great second match, where the boys backed it up and showed plenty of heart.

Fred and Aryx had some really strong runs and busted through a couple of times. Ted was consistently strong and deserved his tackle busting try.

Finn made a great tackle on the try line, but he unfortunately collected a knee to his head which took him out of play.

Joshua had an incredible match with another amazing try saving tackle and two fantastic running tries.

Harry was always on the ball and was quick to the rucks, which made a big difference

GAME 3 - SAI KUNG STINGRAYS. 1-3

The boys showed a lot of heart. However the boys were all super tired after only 5-10 mins between matches. It began to show with a few more missed tackles, and they were a bit slow to the breakdown

Aryx had a few more very strong runs and backed up very well. Mikey had a great try saving tackle.

Skye and Toby were always calling for the ball, but didn’t get enough opportunity with the ball. They were often open , and the team perhaps need to look more for more passing opportunities.

Joshua again found the try line with another great breakaway running dash.

Finn had a great break away run in the last seconds of the game, but unfortunately dropped the ball over the line. Hold the ball tight boys!!! ?

SUMMARY
Good lessons learnt today, and it was great to see how the boys could step up to play well against bigger players

Great Coaching from Richard and David. Thank you and much appreciated!!!
