U12 Kim Lam Cup Finals

U12s

After several covid induced false starts, including a surprise quarantine ‘holiday’ for some, the U12G season finally got underway in May with the annual Kim Lam cup tournament. Played under strict social distancing rules and during the hottest May on record, the tournament finally went ahead in a 7-a-side format. Teams played two pool rounds of three matches followed by a day of finals.

The squad played brilliantly. After a slightly slow start, where the lack of game time showed, the team pulled themselves together and played as a cohesive unit to finish at the top of the A division table. The confidence and determination of the girls becoming clear.

On finals day the girls played an improving (and sometime training partner) Valley Fort in the semis, recording a convincing win. This gave them a shot at the title against arch rivals, Sai Kung Stingrays. Consistent defensive pressure and pace on attack kept SKS on the back foot from the kick off with this continuing through the game. The second half saw the girls finding space on the outside and with this, the try line! The girls came out run away winners 6-1.

The tournament stats made for pleasing reading:
Played 8, won 7, drew 1
Tries for: 44
Tries against: 7

A fantastic end to a challenging season with the hard work and dedication put in by the team paying off. To say that the coaching and management team are proud of the girls would be an understatement! They played with heart, passion and respect - all the aspects of a great rugby side. A fitting end to minis for this all conquering team

U11

As for all the teams, it’s been a stop-start season of training and games this year and we ended up with a small but awesome and close knit squad for the Kim Lam Cup.

They played well in the heat in recent weeks, beating strong teams, to make it to the Plate Finals today.

With the ball in hand there is no doubt that Sandy Bay HKU2 is the fastest and most dangerous U11 team and they showed that again at times today but overall the other teams were too strong for our defence.

The girls have really come together as a team this season, they are always so keen to play and have so much fun together on and around the pitch, it’s great to see.

Each and every girl has raised their game, ready to follow in the footsteps of our all conquering U12 team next year!!
