This was it, the battle for fourth place was divided between 3 teams. If Tigers won, they move up, If SB won and scored the bonus point we go up, if not the bloody Scottish will get through by point difference. The tension was high, the pressure was on and the lads were up for it. One man, ran faster than a winger, tackled more ferociously than a centre, scored all three tries and kicked his conversions and looked to be taking SB to glory on his final game for his beloved team. It was all going to Ed Lax's plan, our mighty hero makes a break, passed the 10 meter line, no one can catch him, passed the 22, the only resistance is the full back, it's a two on one in the final minute, Ed passes the sweetest pass to Pete Hand Grenades (aka two soups) all he has to do is catch is and fall over the line. Well wingers do what wingers do best and needless to say, our hearts dropped as the chilling voice echoed round Kings park, "scrum down, yellow put it". SB had won, we finish before xmas top of the split and Ed Lax will go down as an SB legend.....
or so he told me on Saturday night that's how it happened
Comment from a conscientious onlooker:
The ref was so impressed by Ed’s standout performance even after a cynical and dangerous high tackle which warranted a yellow card the ref decided to give it to an innocent SB player so Ed wouldn’t miss 10mins of an all action display.
