U18Boys Pre-Season Friendly with Valley Fort

First match of the season, a now traditional pre-season friendly with Valley Fort.
First match that we’ve played for more than 10 months thanks to the Covid prevention measures.
Both teams spent some time searching each other out, trying to catch up on mistakes that were made, breakthroughs that didn’t quite make it, or almost made it, depending on your perspective.
A silly mistake from the Valley side allowed Chun Hei to easily breakthrough and sprint halfway down the pitch to score the first try of the game after 20 minutes of tough to-ing and through-ing from both sides.
15 minutes later Valley managed to push through and score their first try of the game. At this point fatigue started to show through on both sides, though this did not translate into more mistakes, and the boys kept their cool and continued to press on.
In the closing stages of the game, Valley managed to get over the line once more, but the ball was held up. Unfortunately, Valley did manage to score a second time in the next action.
All in all, a useful game allowing us to look at the different points that need working on, our strengths that can be built on, and a good insight into the team cohesion. All the boys got to play and show their potential, and for a rusty team that hadn’t played for a long time, no injuries.
A special mention should be made for Kyle who has only just joined us after playing touch rugby for a few years; he got stuck right in managing some very successful and in some cases very timely tackles.
