Marauders back to winning ways at Valley

Coaches Stevie T and Stids had a squad full of hungry players eager to get back on the bicycle after the slip up against Disciplined Services last time out. The early morning kick off helped fuel numbers and increase the levels of sobriety for the 70 mins ahead versus Valley.

Marauders kicked off and the lads had been working on their structures and set about building phase play in conditions perfect for continuity. A couple of early carries from eventual Man of the Match - Alisdair Jessup and a few bone crunching tackles from the returning giant Tom "TooLoose" Alcorn got the Marauders the go forward ball they needed. Scrumhalf Marc Stone showed all the flair and creativity needed to send a chip and chase through from deep in his own half, eventually winning the ball in the opposition 22 and setting up a first foray into the red zone. Returning stalwart Rhys Pinna-Griffith got himself on the score board with 10 mins played after some good defensive work had put Valley under pressure, the ball was turned over and under the poles he trotted. Converted for 7-0.

More strong carries from the forwards with debutant Connor Clark supporting old hands Dayton "Spins McGee" Riddle, Kaiwan Turrell and Dan Budd leading the charge. Marauders were on the attack. A scrum just outside the opposition 22m line led to a half gap and offload to Rhys through the 13 channel and he dived under for his second score in 10 mins. The Marauders had missed him. Converted for 14-0.

Valley were quickly onto the attack with some strong defending from Jason Chow, Victor Mallet and the army of forwards leading to a penalty on half way. Kick for touch missed, Valley run it back, a few switches, a few side steps and their wing galloping down the side line only to have the South African Dan Carter - Nick "Lut" Cameron - perfect his clothesline as the cross cover. Lut was awarded his first yellow for the season and his first DOTD in one go. Penalty try and Valley were back in the game. 14-7 up at this stage.

The Marauders started the second half strongly and kept themselves camped in the opposition half. A penalty was offered up and the lads extended their lead to 10 points. 17-7. The Marauders defence was resolute and the lads looked eager to carry the ball. Lut took matters into his own hands and scored a great solo effort from half way off the back of a scrum. Easy conversion missed 22-7, and that is how it finished.

Another week of progress and getting into the Marauders patterns of play. A few great tries, lots of great carries and a deserved 4 log points. A strong squad showing with many putting their hand up for MOTM and DOTD.
