Congratulations to our award winners

Hi all

Well that concludes the season for us in U8s with just the Hong Kong Sevens Showcase festival to go for a small group of players that are playing this Friday morning.

Firstly I would like to say how fulfilling and rewarding it has been coaching the U8s this year. And I am sure all of our coaching group would agree!

Congratulations to our award winners. It's not an easy task for the coaches to select just three individuals from such a large group. In all the awards there were players with more than one nomination so it was a tight contest and the coaches would have loved to have given more I am sure. Our winners where;

  • Nicholas Rutten, the best and fairest player (The most talented rugby player in our team). Is Nicholas the next Joseph Sua'ali'i?!!!
  • Nimah Jackson, the most improved player (The player that has improved the most throughout the season). Niamh's defence is impecable!
  • Laurence Hyde, the coaches choice (They listen, they support the team, they are coachable and they are kind to others). 110% commitment week in, week out!

The coaches are extremely proud of how our team has progressed this year and we are looking forwarding to seeing that development continue next season in U9, where our rugby journey gets a little more technical, but definitely more enjoyable as a spectacle to watch from the sidelines. Having personally seen my own U11 boy travel from U5s and through the U9-U11 years (and continuing into U12 next year!), there are so many opportunities for players to develop skills and positive attitudes towards sport.

I would also like to give a big shout out to the new players and their parents that joined during the season. Its not easy for the kids to join a group that could be unfamiliar to them in a sport that is a little foreign, but all of new players contributed in so many positive ways. So please do spread the word about how GOOD mini Rugby and Sandy Bay is to your friends and your child's friends, as it's never too late to start playing rugby, especially at Sandy Bay.

Thanks again and see you next year!
