Awesome effort in out first contact festival!

Whilst we don’t obsess over the final results at this stage of our rugby journey, here is a small wrap.

Team 1
Coaches Guy and Whitey really admired the way, against a very strong HKFC team, although going down 4 tries, HKU1 fought back and scored two, holding their heads high and not giving up with great determination. Spirit was also high in the second game against Sha Tin pulling back a deficit and only being beaten by one try. HKU1 finished with two solid victories against Aberdeen and SCAA.

Over the four games, HKU1 got better at their rucking, clearing and passing. A lot of great grit in the players character with a great foundation to build on.

Team 2
HKU2 won three and lost one of their four games (their loss in the last game coming right at the death and courtesy of a player subbed in from the oppositions strongest team).

Coaches Tim and Adam were impressed by the field awareness and passing, which included a 3+ pass try which is great to watch from the sidelines. Playing against some much bigger players, the HKU2 players should hold their heads high for sticking at it and coming back like they did.

Team 3
HKU3 won all four of their games. Coaches Stephen and Lawrence were particularly proud how the team played as a team. All of the players relished getting stuck into all aspects of the game (attacking, defending, cleaning out the ruck and giving options to support the ball carriers). As the wins started to roll in, morale was at an all time high by the end of the fourth game as coach Stephen was on the brink of losing his voice!

Going forward, we will be dangerous as a club as everyone recognises that “we not me” will win the games. We will continue to balance our teams with all abilities and not stack/grade players like some other clubs do who rely on certain players to win games. Also particularly impressive that we were able to field 3 teams in the festival which shows our strength as an age group and club.

Thanks to all the parent support. And remember there are lots of opportunities to volunteer at our Sandy Bay Festival on the 19th November as it takes an army to host the festivals. Please contact our team manager Mike or fill in this form.
