HKU Sandy Bay RFC is pleased to welcome Lewis Evans as Women’s Club Coaching Officer for the Causeway Sandy Bay women’s programme.
Lewis will begin his role on 1 August, marking an important step in the continued growth of the women’s programme at the Bays.
His appointment is about more than adding another coach.
It is about strengthening the environment around the players. Building clearer standards. Supporting coach and player development and creating a programme where women can grow, compete and feel part of something bigger than the pitch.
Women’s rugby continues to be a key part of the club’s identity. From players stepping into the game for the first time to those pushing themselves in a competitive senior environment, the aim is to build a programme with ambition, connection and long-term direction.
Lewis brings a wealth of experience to the role, including a 15-year professional playing career, time as Director of Rugby at USRC Tigers, and significant experience within the Hong Kong China Rugby coaching environment.
A former Dragons captain and club record appearance holder, Lewis has been part of the Hong Kong China men’s national team set-up since 2021, including his work as forwards and defence coach during the campaign that helped Hong Kong China qualify for its first Rugby World Cup.
“We are delighted to appoint Lewis Evans as our Women’s Club Coaching Officer,” said Mark Chan. “His proven leadership, high-performance expertise and commitment to developing talent will be invaluable as we strengthen the Bays women’s programme.”
For Lewis, the opportunity is about working with a group that has clear potential.
“I’m very excited to be part of the CWB/SB club,” Lewis said. “I’m looking forward to working with the players and coaches this season and ensuring we compete with the best teams in the league.”
The Bays women’s programme is not only looking to compete now, but to keep building for what comes next — stronger standards, clearer development and a better environment for players and coaches across the programme.
“Equally important, Lewis’ appointment reinforces our commitment to building clear pathways for women’s rugby at the Bays,” Mark Chan added. “His ability to design and implement structured development programmes will ensure that every player has the opportunity to progress, thrive and contribute to the long-term success of the Bays women’s game.”
This is another step forward for women’s rugby at the Bays.
A step towards stronger standards.
A clearer pathway.
A better environment for players to grow, compete and belong.
Welcome to the Bays, Lewis.
