Bay-connected players were in action over the weekend as the Hong Kong China Men’s and Women’s Dragons travelled to Singapore to face Singapore Select XV sides at MOE (Evans) Stadium.
The Dragons Programme plays an important role in the Hong Kong rugby pathway, giving local players the opportunity to step into a representative environment, test themselves against strong opposition, and continue their development towards higher honours.
For the Women’s Dragons, the tour marked a significant milestone as the team travelled overseas for the first time and played its first international fixture. The team delivered an impressive performance, beating Singapore Select XV 57–0 and scoring nine tries in the win.
Players from Causeway Sandy Bay were part of the matchday squad, with Joey Tsang, Lydia Cheung and Tayler Coates selected for the tour. The Women’s Dragons will continue their development pathway with a fixture against the Hong Kong China U23 Women’s 15s at Hong Kong Football Club on Saturday 4 July.
On the men’s side, Sandy Bay was represented by Roentgen Lau and Hui Ho Yin, who featured for the Hong Kong China Men’s Dragons in a closely contested 23–21 defeat to Singapore Select XV.
Hoi Ho Yin crossed for a try as the Dragons built an early lead, marking a special personal milestone with the first try of his career. The performance also showed clear progress from last year’s meeting between the sides, when Singapore ran out 37–0 winners.
While the results told different stories, the weekend represented another valuable step for the players involved and for the wider Hong Kong rugby pathway.
For the Bay, it was a proud reminder of the number of players connected to the club and HKCR who continue to grow, compete and represent at the next level.
Congratulations again to Roentgen Lau, Hoi Ho Yin, Tayler Coates, Lydia Cheung and Joey Tsang on their selections.
