HKU Sandy Bay RFC is thrilled to share an inspiring update about one of our young players, Murray Hershman, who spent his summer in Mount Maunganui, New Zealand. Over four weeks, he participated in an intensive rugby camp at Inside Running Academy and played for the Papamoa Rugby Club’s U11 team.
Murray received exceptional training in strength, conditioning, and rugby skills, with each day filled with engaging activities. His schedule included half-day outdoor training sessions and half-day indoor skills and physical training. We are particularly proud that his U11 club's head coach has a remarkable background, having played for the All Blacks and recently competing professionally in France.
During his stay, Murray was welcomed by a wonderful local host family who share a deep passion for rugby and have three young boys. Their warmth and hospitality made his experience even more memorable, adding a personal touch to his journey.
Murray had a terrific time in New Zealand, immersing himself in a culture that embodies a strong dedication to rugby. He learned firsthand about the hard work that goes into the rugby journey, hearing stories from professional coaches about their career paths and witnessing older players push themselves to new heights. This exposure has undoubtedly impacted him, both as a player and as an individual.
As we celebrate Murray’s achievements, let us remember that hard work and commitment in any endeavor truly pays off. We are excited to see how his experiences will shape his future in rugby and beyond. Good luck to Murray and his U12 team in the Richard Hawkes Cup this season.
Kudos to Murray’s parents, Stephanie and Adam, for providing Murray with such a great experience during his summer holiday.
Thank you for your continued support of our mini rugby community!
Best regards,
