HKUSB U18G Rugby Autumn Wrap-up

Due to many players leaving Hong Kong and not enough players moving up it was clear to us early on that we would not be able to put in a full Sandy Bay U18 team. It’s an age group where many clubs across Hong Kong are suffering with low numbers.

With such low enrollment at the U18G level, it was agreed upon by HKCR to create a combined team with Flying Kukris, Valley Fort, and Gai Wu.

This was not going to be an easy task and meant extra work for the team manager and coach to make sure players would train together and that there would have enough players to play on Sundays.

It all worked out in the end, and the team managed to win the League and play to a draw in the Grand Final on Sunday December 10. Unfortunately, the other team made the first try of the Final and that meant they would take home the trophy; however, our team added another League trophy to our already impressive collection.

I think some friendships have been made across the clubs and it was nice to see how happy they all were when you were handed the League Winners trophy. I know the season has been frustrating for some players, but I also hope you all appreciate the work your team managers, coaches and club have put into making sure you would get the opportunity to play as much rugby as possible.

Thanks for your continued support and for representing Sandy Bay.

Also, a thanks to the overseas players that came back to Hong Kong during school holidays to support the team.

HKU Sandy Bay RFC Youth Girls Rugby Chairman
