Raiders Trick or Treat

Unfortunately due to Covid the Aberdeen Angels were not able to tour to Seoul in May, however thanks to the support of all the players from Raiders, Marauders and Vikings the Aberdeen Angels were able to tour the New Territories TSW sports ground to take on University Wizards.

The Raiders squad started strongly in the 1st quarter with a formidable Wizards side fielding a majority of Championship players. The first quarter was end to end with both sides threatening the line and a disallowed try by Peter Budd in the first stanza. Wizards scored late in the quarter with a quick tap from a close range penalty.

The 3rd quarter was similarly robust with attacks by both teams through the forwards and backs creating a high standard game for a first trail match of the season. The Raiders forwards set an excellent platform for the backline with JWrafter, Paddy, MJ, Tom Mckenzie and Owen all making several enterprising runs and big hits in defence.

The off-season training certainly showed the forwards with good fitness with Ryan, Statten, Liam, Falso, Alcorn, Jeffrey, Dayton & JohnnyT all working well as a unit. Jasmeet was Raiders only try scorer with a close range pushover try midway through the second quarter.

Raiders seemed to be getting on top late in the second quarter with another close range attack on Wizards line. Wizards turned over the ball and cleared a kick back into Raiders half. In brainsnap moment by Tscott made a speculative long lineout pass to midfield only for it to be intercepted by the Wizards and kicked to opposite corner. Somehow Tscott got himself to the other side to take a mark which he subsequently dropped, resulting in a try for wizards. needless to say he was hands down DOTD.

In general Coach Jez was pleased with structure and fitness of Raiders which augers well for Raiders 2020/21 season after a strong showing last season.

The Tour Committee (Binnie, TMckenzie, Gav, Rumball, TScott and Doug) would like to thank all players for their support and also Russell the Ref for excellent refereeing, as well as JB and Chief for organising this highly enjoyable game with Wizards. The committee would also like to thank The Judge and Judge’s assistant for a well run and highly entertaining after-match court session and junk trip back to Central.

The Aberdeen Angels look forward to touring again in 2021.
