At long last we can look forward to a feast of rugby this coming Saturday when Herbert Smith Freehills HKU Sandy Bay take on Bloomberg HK Scottish in the delayed start to this year's Saxo Markets Premiership. The turbulence and uncertainty of this year makes for an intriguing opening weekend to the season with all teams playing on the same day, each trying to throw down a marker and establish early dominance. The challenge for Head Coach, Brett Wilkinson, has been to bring the squad up to match-fitness in a slightly condensed pre-season following a longer than usual lay-off from rugby. The team, led by this year's co-captains Gair Curry and Liam Slatem, are determined to put on the greatest show possible to demonstrate just what this team is truly capable of. As well as retaining a core group of senior players from last year, it will be incredibly exciting to see when this year's new recruits of Harry Laidler, Jamie Grist and Brendon Nell might make an impact. Healthy competition for starting places has resulted in a noticeable increased zip in training so far and with two more strong imports en route this can only bode well for the season ahead.
Although Covid restrictions means there will be no spectators at King's Park this weekend, you can follow all the live action here: https://www.youtube.com/c/HKRUTV or pop into Rula Live in LKF or Delaney's Cyberport, both of whom will be streaming the match live.
UP THE BAY!
