Herbert Smith Freehills HKU Sandy Bay will approach their final Challenge Trophy match against USRC Tigers with all guns blazing.
Up for grabs, is a possible 3rd place finish in the pre-season tournament (if other results go their way) but the big focus is on building and carrying momentum into the Saxo Markets Premiership which kicks off with a Super Saturday event on 12th October.
With that in mind, Head Coach Brett Wilkinson has selected a strong squad that is only missing injured skipper Gair Currie and those still on sevens national duty – Seb Brien plus Tom and Alex McQueen.
Lawrence Babe returns for his first appearance of the season, young Tomek Tsang, a current Hong Kong U20 representative, awaits his debut from the bench and Ben Featherstone will face up to his ex-club from the bench at tighthead prop.
The Bay are hoping to build on the form that is emerging following last weekends victory over HK Scottish while the Tigers are battling to find early form having not yet won a match.
All five Herbert Smith Freehills HKU Sandy Bay senior teams are in action for the first time this season –
• 1:00pm Vikings vs the touring Paris Bar Lawyers and Valley Knights (three-way friendlies)
• 1:30pm Raiders vs HKFC Bulls at HKFC
• 3pm Storm v Revolution at KGV
• 3pm Marauders vs HKFC Expendables at So Kon Po
War stories from the days matches will be traded in the evening, as all teams head to sponsor bar Rula Live in Lan Kwai Fong for the club’s season opener party.
Up the Bay!
