HK Scottish defend well to deny the Bay a home win at So Kon Po in the final round

The Herbert Smith Freehills HKU Sandy Bay Men's Premiership team has officially run out of runway in their attempts at building momentum for the knockout stages but they must first be congratulated for at least making the top four of the Saxo Capital Markets Men's Premiership. There has been some stiff compeition from Kowloon and USRC Tigers in this season but they fell away in the final stages.

At So Kon Po, Sandy Bay could not build enough sustained pressure against HK Scottish, who defended well and turned defence into two against-the-run-of-play long range tries.

With Liam Slatem, Alex Post and Dean Rossouw sidelined with injury and skipper Gair Currie and Alex McQueen on the bench, it was a competitive but below full-strength side that dogged it out for third and fourth position in the tenth and final round.

Neither side will be content with their efforts in total, although both showed signs of the ability that they'll need to repeat and extend for longer periods if they are to challenge HKFC and Valley in the semi-finals.

Scottish backrowers Josh Dowsing and Kane Boucout were immense and lead the way for the visiting side, especially when they didn't have the ball.

Both teams now return to their drawing boards knowing that knockout footy is a different beast as was demonstrated in the 2018/19 semi-finals when they each toppled their highly fancied opponents - again, HKFC and Valley at home. It will take an epic effort from Sandy Bay to take HKFC down once more. They'll need to play right at the top end of their game, capitlise on any opportunities and limit the frustrating errors if they are to have any chance.

Sandy Bay fans, supporters and members should save the date and bring the noise to HKFC for a 4:45pm kick off at HKFC on Saturday 1st February. Can history be repeated?
