High points drama at the Bay

After a postponed match due the Typhoon Lionrock the U14 boys were ready for what was expected to be a tough game against Valley Fort this Sunday 24th October.

The sun was out and conditions were perfect for a great game of rugby at Sandy Bay. The Bay started extremely strong, competing in the rucks well and moving the ball expertly. It was not long until Jambert broke through the lines, offloading to Rowe to score the first try for the Bay - Rowe followed it up with a perfectly placed conversion kick.

The boys continued to play with the same rigour and great linkup play in the forwards resulted in a strong try from Moyse as he put his shoulder down and charged through the Valley defence. Unfortunately it was a rare miss for Rowe on the conversion leaving the score at 12-0.

The forwards kept the pressure on the Valley defence and were rewarded with another try this time by Captain Sharif who followed up on a strong carry by Moyse and took the off load home. This time there was no mistake from Rowe, slotting the ball over for the extra 2 points.

As expected Valley were not going to take 3 tries lying down and came back strongly after the restart and stretched the Bay lines to bring home a try and conversion themselves - taking the score to 19-7.

Not deterred, the Bay opted for a long restart kick, deep into the Valley 22'. The ball was chased hard by Kwok and his physical presence was enough to force an error by the Valley defender with a knock-on, in time for Rowe to sweep through a score the try and convert it taking us into Half time with the score at 27-7.

The second half was extremely strong for Valley, putting pressure on the Bay defence and running through 2 converted tries in the first 10 minutes of the half. The score was now 26-21 with everything to play for.

The boy dusted themselves down and focused for the final quarter of the game and defended with their hearts. Following some great defence and forcing a line-out, Sandy Bay played the set piece and spun the ball out to the wing. This was all Kwok needed and as soon as the ball touched his hand he hit the accelerator and was off - nobody could catch him and he ran home the try after running two thirds of the pitch. The try was converted successfully bringing the final score to 33-21 - a win to Sandy Bay!
