Powerful running and timely tackling pushed Sandy Bay past DB/FK/SLB Barbarians for a hard-earned win 33-17 to start the season. In the pre-game speech, Coach Tanya highlighted the need for defensive pressure and the team delivered! Sandy Bay kicked off the scoring with a rousing run through the Barbarian defense by Darcey Rummun. DB/FK/SLB Barbarians battled back to score a try of their own, but a timely run for a try off a Barbarian penalty by Grace Eathorne and another weaving run by Darcey Rummun pushed the score to 21 -5 Sandy Bay at the half. A game DB/FK/SLB Barbarian squad broke through with two tries in the second half, but Sandy Bay tries by Hinano Waugh and Ella Steenson propelled Sandy Bay on to victory. Grace Eathorne was an accurate 4 for 5 on conversion kicks for the match. Sandy Bay moves on to take on Hong Kong Football Club next week in what will sure to be a tough away match. Up the Bay!
