A glorious sunny day was the setting for the match up of these two rival clubs. One might expect a bit of rust given the lack of practice and game time over the past week as schedules were interrupted by two T8 Typhoon signals. However, Sandy Bay was game from initial whistle - immediately pressuring Valley Fort and winning a scrum deep in their territory. Sandy Bay scrum half Grace Eathorne secured the ball from the scrum and gave a timely pass to Darcey Rummun charging forward to bust through the Valley defense for the first try of the match. The pressure on the Valley defense continued as forward Ahlia Koram found a bit of space to power through for a second try for Sandy Bay. Valley was able to secure a try of their own, however another powerful run by Ahlia Koram handing off to Ella Snelgrove , who crashed across the line giving Sandy Bay their 3rd try of the half. Halftime score 15-5 Sandy Bay.
Valley Fort stormed back in the 2nd half - penetrating the Sandy Bay defense with a number of long runs and scoring 4 tries. The Sandy Bay Ladies kept their composure however, and rose to the challenge! Effort on both sides was tremendous as the action ebbed and flowed. Sandy Bay's resolve was highlighted by bruising runs for 2 consecutive tries by Ella Steenson. Winger Amani Thambi capped off Sandy Bays's scoring with a heads up grab and dash for a try after Sandy Bay won a ruck in the Valley end. Final score 32-25.
No rest for the weary as Sandy Bay will bring a 2-0 record to face the Stingers, again at Kings Park next week! Up the Bay!
