Another glorious day at Kings Park, and another victory for the Sandy Bay U14 Ladies! As been their custom en route to a 3-0 record, Sandy Bay has been able to pressure teams from the initial whistle. This game started no differently as powerful running and rucking from the Sandy Bay front row led to a try within minutes from the seemingly unstoppable forward, Ella Steenson with her first of 4 tries for the game! Ahlia Koram showed some masterful stepping as she burst through the Stinger defense for a 40 meter run for a try. Grace Eathorne controlled the game wonderfully from the scum half position - scoring two tries herself in addition to performing admirably as the team's place kicker, knocking through 7 conversion attempts. Winger Anya Gidumal pushed through for her first try of the year after scooping the ball from a ruck. Darcey Rummun had yet another stunning run, receiving a kick off and taking it all the way back "to the house!" as our American football brethren would say. An Incredible 9 tries scored on the day for Sandy Bay!
No doubt Sandy Bay had its share of individual offensive contributions, however it could be said it was our Ladies commitment to defense and tackling that set the tone, particularly from the forwards. Rochelle Ng was a defensive stalwart from from the 2nd row - making it her personal mission to tackle as many Stingers players as possible. Caroline and Cassandra Skoett ensured Sandy Bay both maintained and won possession by dominating rucks. Newcomer Jennica Narag was machine-like in her dedication to bringing down opposing ball carriers - she also had a crowd pleasing run where she fended off multiple Stinger defenders, laser focused on advancing the ball.
All in all, an excellent team win with too many contributions to name. The Sandy Bay Ladies head into a bye this weekend, but of course will continue to sharpen their skills with training on Tuesday and Sunday. A tough week thereafter with 2 games scheduled, a rivalry game against Hong Kong Football Club and a tough match up with the Barbarians, who will be looking to avenge their loss to Sandy Bay in the first game of the year. Up the Bay!
