I guess we all noticed. The bus trip was quieter than the last one. It was the last day with league matches before the finals. A day that would decide if we finish first or second in the league. Were the girls nervous or were they focused before the deciding match versus HKFC1? Only time would tell.
After we arrived TSW the girls were still not very talkative, but I started to notice the look in their eyes. That was not the look from your standard 12–13-year-old girl – no, it was the look of warriors before going into battle.
I have been trying to figure out all day how to describe the match detailed enough and I have given up. I will never be able to explain the experience to parents/players not there and I apologize for that. English is not my first language and my vocabulary simply doesn’t cover enough superlatives to make it good enough.
The girls were simply outstanding. HKFC1 never got a chance. They never got closer to 20 meters to the try line and that was only once. 2 tries from Anna Chandler and 3 from Zoe Schorr. Anna brought her golden boots and added 4 out of 5 possible conversions. Final score 33-0. This was a superb team effort with an extremely strong defense and all tries were “team-tries” where more or less all players had their hands on the ball before the try. The passing was really good and the girls played smart and very disciplined.
After the ref blew the whistle for the last time you could just see how much this match meant to the girls – and coaches/parents.
HKU Sandy Bay U14G were guaranteed winning the league before the last match. What an effort.
Congratulations to the whole team and coaches. You deserve it.
