Sandy Bay / Gai Wu faced off against Tigers / SKS for the second league game of the season on a beautiful Sunday evening at Stanley Ho Sports Centre.
Both teams had full sides of 15 players with subsitutes and the game was a fast paced affair from the opening drop kick. Tigers / SKS were clearly a well drilled team and retained a good number of girls from last season for this years squad. Possession from rucks and breakdowns were fairly even for the opening minutes, but slowly Tigers / SKS crept within scoring distance of the Sandy Bay / Gai Wu try line and ultimately opened their account with a well worked try utilizing a series of runners.
Tigers / SKS scored three try's by half time despite some great defense by Sandy Bay / Gai Wu, especially in the backfield. After the half time break, Sandy Bay / Gai Wu came back with guns blazing and pinned Tigers / SKS to their own try line for a good 10 minute period. Unfortunately, they couldn't convert the pressure into points and ultimately Tigers / SKS worked themselves into another scoring position with good combinations and powerful runners.
It was a disappointing night for Sandy Bay / Gai Wu, as Tigers /SKS ran in a final breakaway try before the closing whistle competing a 60-0 win over a exhausted but unbowed Sandy Bay / Gai Wu team.
Jessica Ting was injured in the first few minutes of the match and had two be taken to hospital for stitches to a deep cut on her left eyebrow. CY Tsang suffered her first black eye and cut below her left eye.
