Second pre-season friendly after the one with Valley Fort saw the boys play their first full game in over 10 months. (The game against Valley being 3x 15-minute sessions).
More of a training session than a full-on competition, the aim was for the boys to put into practice all the theory they have been doing during training, in a real match against an opposing team.
Both teams were looking forward to this opportunity to pit their skills against an unknown and full opposition. Stingrays provided a strong solid team slightly more numerous than our 22.
The game started easily, but then become very intense, Stingrays dominating Sandy Bay for the first 10 minutes. The boys then found their feet, and held their own during the middle half of the game.
The lack of recent game play was starting to show towards the end with winded players and a few cases of cramp, but fortunately no injuries at all.
A very hard 70 minutes for both sides, but much appreciated, and many lessons learnt. Strengths to be exploited, weaknesses to be improved on, mistakes to be corrected.
The fact that Sandy Bay won 21 – 12 was also a good boost to our confidence.
Tries by Oscar G, Kyran & Matisse. Conversions by Kurtis.
And lastly a great thanks to Westy for doing a great and impartial job refereeing.
